Hi, I’m Phil — though some know me as Pip, my scriber name, and others have met me as Fungus Hedge; usually when I’m dashing through the countryside with a horde of children in tow, seeking baggy golden underpants belonging to a very disgruntled giant. I wear many personas.
I’ve always been a maker at heart. I grew up in a creative family where crafting was simply a part of life. My parents made everything from cuddly toys to ink drawings, oil paintings and model houses and boats, and even some spectacularly funky 1970s all‑in‑one outfits that I had the privilege (and occasional embarrassment) of wearing. They were purple.
Over the years I’ve tried my hand at all sorts of crafts, but my greatest love is wood, especially in stick form. I’ve carved magic wands, spoons, fustibalus (ancient staff sling shot), and created more than a few journey sticks for weddings. When I’m not holding a carving knife, you’ll find me writing a children’s novel, dot‑painting a pebble, moulding a mystical journal cover, or experimenting with whatever new craft has caught my curiosity.
At Pellars and Crafters, I bring together my love of making, my fondness for folklore, and my delight in everyday enchantment. My workshops are playful, welcoming, and rooted in the belief that creativity is a kind of magic; one we can all share.
